The National Youth Council of Malawi (NYCOM) was established after government realized that there was immediate need for proper coordination of youth programmes, following the mushrooming of various youth-serving and youth-led organizations and an exponential rise in the interest of other non-state actors to participate in the youth sector.
NYCOM is a key institution for ensuring efficient and effective implementation, coordination and evaluation of various youth programmes in Malawi. NYCOM is mandated to register youth organisations, and coordinate, promote and regulate youth work in Malawi.
The Council exists as an implementing arm of the Ministry for youth, currently part of the Ministry of Youth, and Sports.

NYCOM serves as a central hub for coordinating youth programs across Malawi, working to streamline efforts and resources among youth-led and youth-serving organizations. This includes providing strategic guidance, facilitating partnerships, and ensuring that diverse youth programs align with national goals for youth development.
As the official body for registering and regulating youth organizations, NYCOM ensures that all youth-serving entities operate transparently and uphold standards that benefit Malawian youth. This includes overseeing compliance, fostering accountability, and promoting best practices within registered organizations.
NYCOM is dedicated to building the skills, leadership, and capacity of young Malawians, empowering them to become active, informed citizens. Through training programs, mentorship, and development initiatives, NYCOM supports youth to harness their potential and drive meaningful change within their communities.
In collaboration with the Ministry and other stakeholders, NYCOM advocates for youth-centered policies that address the evolving needs and aspirations of Malawi’s young population. By amplifying youth voices, fostering civic engagement, and encouraging youth participation in decision-making, NYCOM helps shape a youth-friendly policy landscape that aligns with Malawi's development goals.
The National Youth Council of Malawi (NYCOM) is a Statutory Corporation of the Republic of Malawi established under the Act of Parliament; National Youth Council of Malawi Act No. 22 of 1996. We exist to encourage, promote and coordinate youth development and empower young people to participate effectively in development and governance of their communities.
