On Wednesday, 13 November, 2024, the National Youth Council of Malawi held its General Assembly for the first time since October 2016. The Annual General Assembly (AGA) is legally instituted by the National Youth Council of Malawi Act (1996) under Section 28 (1) and (2).

The General Assembly took place at the Bingu International Conference Centre (BICC) as part of the Malawi National Youth Summit. The General Assembly brought together about 120 paid-up affiliate organisations from across the country.

As a matter of both law and necessity, the General Assembly made the following key resolutions:

1. Adoption of Chairman’s report,

2. Approval of Audited Financial statements,

3. Approval of revised registration fees and affiliation fees, and

4. Adoption of the Council’s new Strategic Plan (2024-2030).

The AGA, as with the entire Summit, was held under the theme ‘A renewed commitment to youth development towards the Malawi 2063’. The Summit saw over 800 people participating, well above the planned 500 people.
