The National Youth Council of Malawi (NYCOM) is delighted to announce the successful applicants for the Youth Agricultural Cooperative Grants, a flagship program aimed at empowering youth-led agricultural enterprises to contribute to national development and the goals of Malawi 2063.
After a rigorous selection process, eighteen (18) outstanding youth agricultural cooperatives from across the country have been awarded grants to support innovative, sustainable, and inclusive agricultural initiatives. These cooperatives demonstrated exceptional potential to drive economic growth, enhance food security, and create employment opportunities for young people.Speaking about the announcement, Rex Chapota, Executive Director of NYCOM, emphasized the importance of youth in agriculture:
“This program is a testament to the transformative power of youth leadership in Malawi’s agricultural sector. These successful cooperatives exemplify the energy, innovation, and dedication needed to move Malawi towards a prosperous and self-reliant future.”
The selection process evaluated cooperatives based on their alignment with national priorities, sustainability, inclusivity, and potential for impact. The grants will support various activities, including crop and livestock farming, agro-processing, and the use of modern farming technologies.
